Reddit is barreling into Q2 with a revenue forecast that would make most ad-supported platforms blush. The social network expects to pull in between $715 million and $725 million during the April-June period — up 43% to 45% from a year earlier, management said on its Q1 call. That top-line number, which exceeds the $711.6 million consensus, extends a remarkable streak: seven straight quarters of growth above 60%.
This momentum is powered by two engines: the sale of its user conversations to AI labs, and a revamped ad stack that’s finally starting to hum. Q1 delivered $663 million in total revenue, with advertising jumping 74% to $625 million and "Other" — mostly data licensing — climbing 15% to $39 million. Gross margins hovered above 90%, and the company generated over $300 million in free cash flow on just $1 million in capital spending.
| Metric | Q1 2026 | Q2 2026 Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Total Revenue | $663M | $715M – $725M |
| Adjusted EBITDA | ~$265M | $285M – $295M |
| DAUq | 126.8M | N/A |
Data licensing remains the wildcard. Google pays about $60 million a year, OpenAI another $70 million, together fueling roughly 6% of Reddit’s 2025 revenue of $2.2 billion. But the real drama lies ahead: CEO Steve Huffman is pushing to convert those flat-fee agreements into dynamic, usage-based pricing when they come up for renewal in 2027. Wells Fargo estimates new terms could lift combined licensing income to $550 million annually — a fourfold jump.
Huffman’s "oil" metaphor has become a fixture of earnings calls. "Human conversation is like oil for the modern internet," he says, and CFO Drew Vollero echoed that in a Benzinga interview: "Oil was valuable because it powered an entirely new economic system. Human conversation is doing the same thing." With 25 billion posts and comments, Reddit is already the most-cited source for large language models, and as the web chokes on AI-generated filler, authentic human chatter becomes more precious.
Not everyone on the platform is cheering. On r/stocks after Q1 numbers dropped, a highly-upvoted comment gushed: "7 quarters of 60%+ growth. 91.5% gross margins. $1M capex. This is the most capital-efficient growth story in tech." A bearish reply shot back: "Forward P/S of 9.32 vs sector 6.88. They’re priced for perfection. And Meta’s AI ad tools are going to crush them." Over on r/technology, the tone turned moral: "Users created the content. Reddit is selling it. Shouldn’t users get a cut?" Another user dismissed it: "You agreed to the ToS. They’re finally monetizing what they should have been monetizing all along."

The Federal Trade Commission is asking similar questions. An ongoing probe is scrutinizing whether users were adequately informed about how their posts train AI models. The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office fined Reddit £14.47 million in February 2026 for failing to enforce age verification. A class-action lawsuit alleges management hid the traffic impact of zero-click AI search summaries. And Semrush data suggests Reddit’s share of ChatGPT citations cratered from around 60% to 10% in a six-week stretch, though Perplexity still leans heavily on the site.
Yet advertising remains the breadwinner. Q1’s $625 million in ad revenue was driven by a 75% jump in active advertisers and a shift toward performance formats. The flagship tool, Max Campaigns, uses "Reddit Community Intelligence" — a model trained on over 23 billion posts — to auto-optimize bids, creative, and placement. Beta testers saw a 17% lower cost per action and 25% more conversions; one brand, Cozy, reported 35% higher ROAS and 28% lower CPA.
At Cannes Lions 2026, Reddit unveiled AI shopping ads, conversation summaries that lifted clickthroughs 19% in tests, and Reddit Insights, a social listening tool. The June acquisition of Memorable AI aims to supercharge creative optimization. Still, the platform has to prove it can scale these automations against Meta’s Advantage+ and Google’s Performance Max. One strategist told Marketing Interactive that advertisers now expect "the same consistency, scale and clear proof of incrementality" from Reddit as from the big two.
International growth offers a third leg. International daily active users grew 28% to 73.3 million in Q1 — four times the US pace — fueled by machine translation across 30 languages. Reddit Answers, the company’s AI search feature, scaled from 1 million to 15 million queries year-over-year. Search weekly active users were up 30%. "We were pioneers when we signed these deals in 2024," Vollero said. "Neither side knew exactly what to expect, and the marketplace has continued to evolve rapidly."
The paradox is spelled out best by a HackerNews comment: "Reddit’s worth to AI labs rests on being a trusted human corpus. By policing coordinated fake activity, Reddit defends that integrity and its leverage in the 2027 renewals. The question isn’t whether Reddit can charge more for data. It’s whether AI-powered search and answer engines will erode Reddit’s own organic traffic and ad business over time, even as licensing fees from those same AI companies climb."
